Kalakshetra Foundation Tutor (Bharatanatyam) Recruitment 2026

Kalakshetra Foundation, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has invited applications for the post of Tutor (Bharatanatyam) at Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts. Eligible candidates can submit their offline applications in the prescribed format to reach the Director, Kalakshetra Foundation, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai - 600041 by 05.30 p.m. on 23 November 2026.

Kalakshetra Foundation is an Institution of National Importance located in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai, functioning as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts operates under the foundation to impart training in traditional art forms. The current recruitment drive aims to fill one vacant Group C post of Tutor in Bharatanatyam through a written test and skill test.

The recruitment notification provides a single post with the following details:

Desirable qualifications include knowledge of any South Indian language and Hindi, and the ability to write music and dance notation.

The selected candidate will be appointed in Group C under Pay Level 11 (Rs 35400 - 112400) as per the Tamil Nadu State Government VII Pay Commission pay scales. Date of birth recorded in the Matriculation or Secondary Examination Certificate will be accepted for determining age, with no subsequent changes permitted. Candidates called for document verification must produce original mark sheets for all years or semesters of their diploma or graduation, along with provisional or diploma certificates.

The selection process comprises two phases: a written examination and a skill test (Bharatanatyam). Candidates must score minimum qualifying marks in both tests to be considered for appointment.

Written Examination

The written test carries a maximum of 200 marks with a duration of 3 hours. It consists of descriptive, objective MCQ, or both types of questions covering the Detailed History of Kalakshetra and its Founder, as well as the Basic Theory of Bharatanatyam and classical dance forms of India. Candidates must secure a minimum qualifying mark of 100 out of 200 to be eligible for the next stage.

Skill Test (Practical)

Candidates shortlisted from the written test will undergo a practical skill test carrying 100 marks. The test covers Varnam, Padam, Javali, and Thillana for a minimum of 15 minutes per candidate, alongside evaluation of communication skills, performance in Abhinaya and Nritya, knowledge of music, Nattuvangam, and teaching abilities. Candidates must score a minimum of 50 out of 100 marks. Non-alumni candidates must bring their own recorded music and rehearsal costumes.

Final Merit List

A final merit list will be prepared by adding the marks scored in the written test (theory) and skill test (practicals) in the ratio of 40:60 for candidates who attend the skill test.

1. Download the application form provided in Annexure I of the official notification.
2. Fill out the application form completely using a blue or black ballpoint pen.
3. Affix a recent passport-size photograph to the designated space on the application form and keep one extra photograph separately for the call letter.
4. Attach self-attested copies of all required testimonials, educational certificates, and age proof.
5. Place the application inside a cover and superscribe it clearly as ‘Application for the post of Tutor (Bharatanatyam)’.
6. Send the completed application by post to reach The Director, Kalakshetra Foundation, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai - 600041 by 05.30 p.m. on 23 November 2026.

• Applications received after the closing date of 23 November 2026 (05.30 p.m.) or received through email will be summarily rejected.
• Improper applications and those without self-attested copies of required documents will be rejected.
• No travelling allowance will be paid to candidates attending the written test or skill test.
• Candidates must make their own arrangements for stay in Chennai if the recruitment procedure extends beyond one day.
• Canvassing in any form will lead to immediate disqualification.
• Success in the examination does not confer any right to appointment unless the foundation is satisfied that the candidate is suitable in all respects.
