Who Can Apply for NCR GDCE 2026?

• Eligible and serving regular employees (except RPF/RPSF) having lien in North Central Railway can apply against the GDCE quota.
• All eligible regular and serving railway employees of NCR can fill the online application form. No minimum service condition is prescribed, as per RBE 72/2024 dated 02.08.2024.
• Regular and eligible NCR employees who have the prescribed educational qualification for Direct Recruitment and work in grades lower than the grade/pay scale for which GDCE is being conducted can appear for all categories.
• Regular and eligible employees with the prescribed educational qualification for Direct Recruitment who work in the same grade/pay scale for which GDCE is being conducted can appear for selection from Non-Safety to Safety category posts as well as Safety to Safety category posts.
• Candidates must fulfil all notified eligibility criteria on or before the closing date for submission of the application.
• Date of Birth and educational qualifications must be updated in the Service Records and in HRMS; otherwise the application is liable to be cancelled.

Who Cannot Apply for NCR GDCE 2026? (Non-Eligibility)

• Employees in a higher grade than the grade of the notified post.
• Employees who do not have the requisite educational qualification, medical standard and age criteria prescribed in the notification.
• Trainee or Substitute employees who are not regularized.
• RPF/RPSF personnel (as per Railway Board's letter No. E(NG)I/2002/PM2/9 dated 11.08.2003).
• Law Assistant, Catering Inspector and Accounts Cadre (as per Railway Board's letter No. E(NG)I/2000/PN2/12 dated 21.08.2001, RBE No. 165/2001).
• Candidates appearing in, or awaiting results of, the final examination for the minimum qualification at the time of applying.
• Candidates who have resigned or been transferred from North Central Railway at any stage of the selection process.
• Candidates are not allowed to apply for the same post on which they are presently working.

Candidates must hold the minimum educational qualification for the post from a recognized Board/ University/ Institute as on the closing date for online application submission, as per Annexure-F. The qualification must also be endorsed in the Service Record of the employee, otherwise the candidature will be rejected. Those awaiting results of the final examination of the prescribed qualification should not apply.

ALP and Technician Qualification

Qualification notes from the notification: for JE and ALP posts, higher qualifications such as B.E./B.Tech are also acceptable in lieu of a three-year Diploma in Engineering in the same disciplines. Diploma/Degree in Engineering will not be accepted in lieu of Course Completed Act Apprentices/ITI for the post of Technicians in Pay Level-2 unless otherwise specified, and a Graduate Act Apprentice will not be accepted in lieu of Course Completed Act Apprenticeship (CCAA), as per RBE 13/2019 dated 16/01/2019.

Junior Engineer (JE) Qualification

Please note: Annexure-F groups the JE qualifications in merged cells, and it lists ten JE rows, while Annexure-E lists eleven JE categories (for example JE / Drawing (Electrical), JE / TMC and JE (Mech.) do not appear by the same names in Annexure-F). Candidates should check the exact qualification for their post in Annexure-F of the official notification.

Commercial cum Ticket Clerk and Junior Clerk cum Typist Qualification

ITI Trade and JE Exam Group Mapping

Candidates must indicate the ITI trade from which they wish to appear in the Qualifying Test for ALP and Technician posts, and the Exam Group for the "Technical Abilities" part of the JE examination. For ALP, candidates holding a Degree/Diploma select the relevant trade against their engineering discipline as shown below.

A candidate holding more than one minimum educational qualification mapped to different Exam Groups can choose any one Exam Group, provided the candidate opts for post(s) whose educational qualification is mapped to the chosen exam group. Such candidates would still be eligible for all the opted posts as per educational qualification.

The upper age limit for UR candidates is 42 years, for OBC candidates 45 years and for SC/ST candidates 47 years. The lower and upper age limits are reckoned as on 01.01.2027 (both dates inclusive). The lower limit is 18 years for all communities/categories.

Note on a discrepancy in the notification: the age-group table in the notification labels the OBC column as "18 to 47 Years", while clause 2.1 and the OBC date of birth (02.01.1982) point to an upper limit of 45 years. The table above follows clause 2.1 and the date of birth; candidates should confirm this with the official notification.

• No age relaxation is allowed to SC/ST/OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates applying against unreserved vacancies.
• Proof of age: any one of the Birth Certificate issued by the competent authority, OR the Class 10th (or equivalent) Certificate/Mark Sheet indicating the date of birth, OR the School Leaving Certificate clearly mentioning the date of birth, and the same recorded in the service record of the employee.

• Vertical reservation for SC, ST and OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) is admissible wherever applicable. SC/ST candidates must furnish a Caste Certificate in the format at Annexure-G, and OBC-NCL candidates in the format at Annexure-H, at the time of Document Verification.
• OBC-NCL candidates must also furnish a declaration in the format at Annexure-H (1) that they do not belong to the creamy layer. The certificate should not be older than one year at the time of Document Verification. If these stipulations are not complied with, the OBC-NCL claim will not be entertained and the candidate, if otherwise fulfilling the General (UR) conditions, will be considered under General (UR) vacancies only.
• There is no separate reservation of posts for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), as per Railway Board's letter No. E(NG)I-2018/PM1/23 dated 02/05/2019 (RBE No. 72/2019).
• The crucial date for the claim of SC/ST/OBC status or any other benefit such as reservation and age relaxation, where not specified otherwise, is the closing date for submission of online applications.
• Reservation for PwBD is a horizontal reservation and is applicable in GDCE, as per Railway Board's letter No. E(NG)1-2019/PM4/8 dated 27.12.2022.

The notification does not specify the salary or pay amount for the posts. It gives only the 7th CPC pay level of each post. During any prescribed training, payment will be regulated as per extant rules.

The medical standards are indicative and not exhaustive. Candidates should read Chapter 5 of the Indian Railway Medical Manual (IRMM) Volume I, which can be accessed at www.indianrailway.gov.in. A candidate who fails to pass the prescribed medical fitness for the post will not be considered suitable for empanelment.

PwBD Suitability of Posts

Annexure-F shows the suitability of each post for persons with benchmark disabilities. The table below lists the entries as given in the notification. "No" means the post is not marked suitable for that disability category.

Abbreviations as given in the notification: AAV = Acid Attack Victim, B = Blind, BL = Both Legs, D = Deaf, DW = Dwarfism, HH = Hard of Hearing, HI = Hearing Impairment, ID = Intellectual Disability, LC = Leprosy Cured, LD = Locomotor Disability, LV = Low Vision, MD = Multiple Disability, MW = Muscular Weakness, OA = One Arm, OL = One Leg, OAL = One Arm and One Leg, PwBD = Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, VI = Visually Impairment. SD and SI are used in the notification without an expansion. Selected PwBD candidates will be medically examined by Railway Medical Authorities at the time of Document Verification, and only those conforming to the medical standards in the Indian Railway Medical Manual and other extant provisions will be eligible for appointment.

Only a single online application has to be submitted. The selection process involves a single-stage Computer Based Test (CBT) and Aptitude Test (wherever applicable), followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination. Selection is made strictly on merit based on these stages. The date, time and venue of all activities will be fixed by RRC and intimated to eligible candidates in due course. Requests for postponement or change of venue, date and shift will not be entertained under any circumstances.

NCR GDCE CBT Exam Pattern

• The CBT has questions and answer options only in English and Hindi.
• There is negative marking in the CBTs for all categories of posts: 1/3rd of the marks allotted for each question is deducted for each wrong answer.
• There is no supplementary exam for absentee candidates under any circumstances. Candidates absent on the scheduled date and session will be disqualified without further notice.
• The syllabus and examination pattern are the same as prescribed by RRB for Direct Recruitment, except the ALP category, for which a revised pattern is given in Annexure-A (as per RBE 28/2026 dated 23.03.2026).

The subject-wise distribution is indicative, and question papers may vary. There will be a separate CBT for each pay level of Technician posts. A virtual calculator is available on the computer monitor during the JE CBT.

NCR GDCE Syllabus

• ALP: Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and Basic Science and Engineering follow the RRB Direct Recruitment syllabus for ALP. The Trade Specific Section is based on the syllabus prescribed by the Directorate General of Training (DGT) under MSDE for the relevant trades, available at www.dgt.gov.in.
• Technician Gr-I S&T: General Awareness, General Intelligence and Reasoning, Basics of Computers and Applications, Mathematics, and Basic Science and Engineering (including Electricity and Magnetism, and Electronics and Measurements).
• Technician Gr-III: Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and General Science (Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level) with General Awareness.
• Junior Engineer: General Awareness, Physics and Chemistry (up to 10th standard CBSE syllabus), Basics of Computers and Applications, Basics of Environment and Pollution Control, and Technical Abilities framed on the syllabus of the chosen Exam Group (Civil and Allied, Electrical and Allied, Electronics and Allied, or Mechanical and Allied Engineering).
• NTPC (Non-Graduate): Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and General Awareness.

The topic-wise syllabus for each group is given in Annexures A to D of the official notification and is not reproduced in full here. The topics listed in the notification are illustrative and not necessarily exhaustive.

ALP Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

• Candidates equal to 8 (eight) times the number of ALP vacancies for each notified community/category (UR, OBC (NCL), SC, ST) are shortlisted for CBAT based on CBT marks. If more than one candidate obtains marks equal to the cut-off, all of them are shortlisted.
• Each test battery/section of CBAT must be cleared separately. All candidates, irrespective of community, must secure a minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery separately, with no relaxation.
• CBAT is only in English and Hindi, with no negative marking.
• The merit list is prepared only from candidates qualifying in CBAT, with 50% weightage to CBT marks and 50% weightage to CBAT score (Railway Board's letter no. 2023/E(RRB)/25/38-A dated 16.04.2026).
• For CBAT information, the notification refers candidates to the RDSO website (rdso.indianrailways.gov.in).

Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST) for Junior Clerk cum Typist

The CBTST is of qualifying nature, and its marks are not added for merit. Candidates equal to eight times the number of vacancies for each community are called. Candidates should be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on a Personal Computer without editing tools and spell check. Kruti Dev and Mangal fonts are available for Hindi typing. Exemption may be extended to candidates permanently disabled due to Blindness/Low Vision, Cerebral Palsy and Locomotor Disability with not less than 40% permanent disability, who must upload or produce the Typing Skill Test Exemption Certificate issued by the Competent Medical Board before the test.

Minimum Qualifying Marks and Merit

• These percentages may be relaxed by 2% for PwBD candidates if there is a shortage of PwBD candidates against the vacancies reserved for them.
• The marks scored in CBT are used for shortlisting candidates for further stages. Candidates equal to the number of vacancies are called for Document Verification, based on merit in CBT and the preference for post/exam group given.
• Tie-break: the older candidate is placed higher in merit; if the age is also the same, alphabetical order (A to Z) of the name is used.
• Normalization: raw marks are used for single-session papers and normalized marks for multi-session papers to compute a Merit Index. Merit Index = Sq + (St − Sq) × (M − Mq) / (Mt − Mq), where M is the marks obtained, Mq is the qualifying marks for the general category candidate (40), Mt is the mean marks of the top 0.1% or top 10 candidates (whichever is larger), Sq is 350 (score assigned to Mq) and St is 900 (score assigned to Mt).
• A combined merit list of candidates from different disciplines/Exam Groups is prepared in descending order of the Merit Index, and allotment of preference is done on that basis.
• Post/Unit is allotted as per the candidate's options, subject to merit, reservation policy and vacancy position on the date of finalizing the panel. Once empanelled, candidates forfeit the right to be considered for any other post/category.

NCR GDCE Apply Online Steps

1. Visit the official website of RRC/NCR, www.rrcpryj.org, and open the link for filling the application for GDCE Notification No. RRC/NCR/GDCE/01/2026.
2. Click on the "New Registration" link.
3. Fill in the personal information, e-mail address and mobile number. An e-mail/SMS will be received on the registered e-mail ID/mobile number with the registration number and password.
4. Login using the registration number and password.
5. Follow the instructions and complete the registration process step by step, including the post preference and exam group.
6. Upload the scanned copy of the photograph, self-attested certificates in proof of date of birth, educational/technical qualifications and caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC), and submit the application.

Name, Father's Name and Date of Birth must match the Matriculation or equivalent certificate as well as the service records. Candidates need not send printouts of the application or certificates to RRC by post.

Documents to Keep Ready and Upload

• Proof of Date of Birth, and disability certificate for PwBD.
• Certificate of Educational/Technical Qualification for the post applied.
• For SC/ST candidates: Community certificate in the prescribed format as per Annexure-G.
• For OBC candidates: valid Community certificate in the prescribed format as per Annexure-H, specifically indicating that the candidate does not belong to the creamy layer, plus the self-declaration as per Annexure-H (1).
• Employee Service Certificate as per Annexure-I, filled by the applicant with signature and thumb impression (same as uploaded in the application) and verified by the immediate supervisor with signature, seal and mobile number.
• Passport size colour photograph and specimen signature, in JPEG format.
• The application also asks for Division/PU, Community, Employee ID No., Aadhar No., two visible marks of identification, and nearest Railway Station and Station Code.

Photograph and Signature Specifications

• Applications are to be submitted online only through the link on www.rrcpryj.org. Candidates are advised to beware of fake websites and job racketeers. RRC does not appoint any agent or coaching centre for recruitment.
• Candidates must have their own valid and active mobile number and personal e-mail ID for the entire examination process. RRC will not entertain any request to change the mobile number or e-mail ID after submission of the application.
• Candidates should register well before the closing date to avoid last-minute load on the website. RRC will not bear responsibility if a candidate cannot register within the last date and time.
• Post preference, once opted, is treated as final and no change is permissible. Candidates with partial options are considered only for the posts/categories they opted for. Not giving an option for certain posts/categories is treated as unwillingness for them.
• Eligibility is considered only on the basis of information furnished in the online application. False or incorrect information or suppression of relevant information leads to rejection of candidature.
• Candidates should note and preserve their Registration Number for further stages.
• Signatures and photographs must be identical at all stages of the selection process. Candidates should keep at least 12 copies of the same photograph.
• Candidates must ensure they meet the medical standards for the post. Appointment is subject to medical fitness, final verification of educational and community certificates, and verification of antecedents/character.
• Selected employees are liable to be posted anywhere in North Central Railway, and the decision of the Railway administration is final.
• Selection by RRC does not confer any right of appointment. RRC only recommends names to the concerned units of North Central Railway, which issue the offer of appointment letter.

Reasons for Rejection of Application

Applications are liable to be rejected on grounds including the following (the list is illustrative and not exhaustive):

• Applications sent manually and not registered online.
• More than one application by the same candidate for the same post. Candidates submitting multiple applications, including with minor changes in information, will be summarily rejected and debarred from all future examinations of RRBs and RRCs.
• Not possessing the prescribed educational qualifications at the time of submitting the application.
• Missing or improper scanned photograph, signature, LTI and other documents.
• Invalid photographs (black and white, with cap or sunglasses/goggles, disfigured, small size, full body, one-side view, unrecognizable, photostat copy, group photo, selfie, photo taken by mobile, morphed photo, or no photo).
• Signature in capital/block/disjointed letters.
• Missing certificates in the prescribed format for date of birth, educational qualification and caste.
• Incomplete or incorrectly filled applications.

If an application is rejected, candidates can view the status and reasons online on www.rrcpryj.org, and SMS/e-mail alerts are also sent. The decision is final and binding.

E-Call Letter, CBT and Document Verification Instructions

• E-Call Letters are to be downloaded from the official website of RRC. No call letter is sent by post.
• For the CBT, candidates must bring their Railway Identity card and a sparing letter (with the candidate's photo) bearing the signature and stamp of the concerned Supervisor/Controlling Officer, with the photo attested. Name, date of birth and photo on the ID must match the online application.
• Candidates must bring the colour photograph (35 mm x 45 mm) uploaded with the application, and an original valid Photo ID.
• Candidates must write the Self-Declaration paragraph, sign and affix LTI at the venue in the presence of the invigilator only. Writing it in advance or signing in capital letters leads to rejection.
• Banned items inside the exam hall include mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, pen drives, laptops, calculators, wrist/smart watches, other communication devices, pen/pencil, wallets/purses, belts, shoes and metallic wear including ornaments.
• For Document Verification, candidates must bring all required documents in original, along with two sets of self-attested photocopies. Certificates must be in English or Hindi in the prescribed formats. Candidates absent during Document Verification will have their candidature cancelled.
• Candidates who want to be considered against reserved vacancies or seek age relaxation must submit the relevant original certificate in the prescribed format at Document Verification; otherwise they will be considered under General (UR) if eligible.

Malpractice and Impersonation Warning

Any candidate using unfair means, sending someone else in their place or attempting to impersonate will be debarred from all examinations of all RRCs and RRBs for lifetime, in addition to departmental disciplinary action and possible legal prosecution. The notification refers to The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act and Rules, 2024, as amended on 31.07.2026. RRC may conduct post-examination analysis including log analysis, photograph and biometric verification and CCTV footage review.
