India Post Staff Car Driver Recruitment 2026: The Department of Posts, Mail Motor Service, Chennai, has released a recruitment notification dated 29 October 2026 for 24 Staff Car Driver (Ordinary Grade) vacancies in Tamil Nadu Circle. Candidates who have passed 10th standard, possess valid Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) and Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) driving licences, and have at least three years of driving experience can apply. The salary ranges from Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200 under Level 2 of the 7th CPC. Eligible candidates must submit their applications through Speed Post only by 30 November 2026 at 5:00 PM.

Ex-Servicemen Reservation: Two vacancies are earmarked for Ex-Servicemen. These are horizontal reservations included within the total of 24 posts and must not be added separately.

Applicants must have passed 10th standard from a recognized Board or Institute, possess valid LMV and HMV driving licences, and have at least three years of experience driving light and heavy motor vehicles.

Educational Qualification and Driving Requirements

Driving Experience Certificate Requirements

Candidates must provide a valid experience certificate issued by a Gazetted Officer of a Central or State Government office or by the head of a registered firm, company, agency or institution.

The certificate must include the organization's full address, door number, PIN code, issuing officer's name and designation, and date of issue. It must clearly specify the periods of LMV and HMV driving experience.

Important: The claimed driving experience must fall within the validity period of the relevant driving licence.

The age limit for Unreserved and EWS candidates is 18 to 27 years as on 30 November 2026. Relaxation applies to eligible reserved categories and other specified applicants.

For Ex-Servicemen, the notification provides age relaxation after deduction of qualifying military service, subject to category-specific conditions.

Selected candidates will receive a pay scale of Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200 under Level 2 of the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix, along with admissible allowances.

The advertised pay scale represents basic pay progression and does not specify a fixed in-hand salary.

The application fee is Rs. 100. Women, SC and ST candidates are exempted from the application fee.

Non-exempt candidates must pay the fee through e-payment at a computerized post office using the prescribed challan form. The payment should be made under E-Biller Name: Senior Manager, MMS Chennai, CPMG Tamil Nadu Circle, with E-Biller ID 1000099022.

The original postal payment receipt must be pasted on the application form. Payment through any other mode will not be accepted. The fee is non-refundable.

Selection will be based on a two-stage examination comprising a theory test and a practical test assessing motor mechanism and driving ability.

1. Stage I - Theory Examination: Objective questions covering General Knowledge, Reasoning, Arithmetic, Road Sense, Traffic Rules and Vehicle Maintenance.
2. Stage II - Practical Test: Assessment of motor mechanism knowledge and light/heavy vehicle driving skills.
3. Final Merit: Prepared from the total marks obtained in both stages, subject to the prescribed qualifying standards.

Only candidates who qualify in Stage I will be eligible to appear in Stage II.

Stage I - Theory Examination

The theory examination consists of 80 multiple-choice questions carrying 80 marks, with a duration of 90 minutes.

Stage II - Practical Driving Test

The practical examination carries 20 marks and assesses the candidate's motor mechanism knowledge and ability to drive light and heavy vehicles.

The qualifying standards apply to each prescribed examination paper as specified in Annexure-I. Meeting the minimum standard does not guarantee final selection.
