Note: the notification states the upper age limit is calculated "as on 18/08/25", while the cut-off date for qualifications and age criteria is separately stated as 30-Sep-2026. Both dates are reproduced here exactly as printed in the notification.

IRCTC/West Zone has notified 27 apprentice positions across 4 trades, each with a 12-month training duration.

Place of posting for all trades is Mumbai or its Regional Offices/Units under IRCTC/West Zone.

Applicants should have already passed, or be pursuing, the prescribed qualification notified against each position, as on 30.09.2026. In addition, candidates should have passed the Matriculation Examination with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized Board.

All applicants, regardless of trade, must additionally have passed Matriculation with minimum 50% aggregate marks from a recognized Board.

The age limit for all posts, as on 18/08/25, is 15 (completed) to 25 years, with the following relaxation:

*Ex-servicemen's upper age limit is relaxed by an additional 10 years, to the extent of service rendered in the Defence Forces, plus 3 years, provided they have put in a minimum of 6 months' service at a stretch - except ex-servicemen who have already joined Government Services on the civil side after availing Ex-servicemen status for the purpose of their engagement.

Ex-servicemen, their children, and children of Armed Forces personnel will be engaged for Apprenticeship as per the following:

1. Children of deceased/disabled Ex-servicemen, including those killed/disabled during peace time.
2. Children of Ex-servicemen.
3. Children of Serving Jawans.
4. Children of Serving Officers.
5. Ex-Servicemen.

The training period is one year (as mentioned against each post). Selected candidates engaged as Apprentices will be paid a monthly stipend as per the prescribed rates under the Apprenticeship Act.

• Reservation of Vacancies: Government guidelines for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Ex-Serviceman candidates will be followed, with applicable age relaxation.
• Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): Government guidelines for EWS candidates will be followed. Applicants are required to submit their EWS Certificate if claiming against the EWS quota.

There is no written test or viva. Selection follows this mode:

• Selection is based on a merit list prepared on the percentage of marks obtained in the Matriculation examination. In case of a grading system of marking, the average of the highest and lowest marks in the scale will be taken.
• If two applicants have the same marks, the applicant with the older age is preferred. If the dates of birth are also the same, the applicant who passed the Matriculation exam earlier is considered first.
• Final selection is subject to verification of original testimonials.
• Candidates on the Stand-by list will be offered to join only on receipt of details of absentees and rejected candidates from the Merit list.
• Offers are issued strictly in order of merit.
• Shortlisted candidates should be in readiness to report to the concerned office for Document/Certificate Verification at short notice.

Applicants must submit legible, self-attested scanned copies of the following documents at the time of application:

1. 10th Standard Mark Sheet and ITI standard mark sheet.
2. Graduation Degree and Marksheet, for trades where the eligibility criteria is based on Graduation.
3. Certificate for proof of date of birth (Standard 10 or its equivalent certificate or mark sheet indicating date of birth, or School Leaving Certificate indicating date of birth).
4. Consolidated ITI mark sheet of all semesters of the trade applied for, or Provisional National Trade Certificate indicating marks.
5. National Trade Certificate issued by NCVT/SCVT, or Provisional National Trade Certificate issued by NCVT/SCVT.
6. Caste certificate, for SC/ST/OBC applicants.
7. Disability certificate, in case of PwBD applicants.
8. Discharge Certificate/Serving Certificate, in case of applicants applying against the Ex-Servicemen quota.
9. A hard copy of a colour photograph (size 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm), taken not later than three months before the date of application, with a clear front view and without cap or sunglasses. IRCTC may reject applications at any stage for an old/unclear photograph, or for significant variation between the submitted photograph and the applicant's actual appearance. Applicants are advised to keep two additional copies of the same photograph ready and carry them at the time of Document/Certificate Verification.

Shortlisted candidates are required to submit original documents along with 2 self-attested photocopies on the day of Document Verification.

IRCTC West Zone Apprentice Apply Online

1. Register on the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme portal, https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in.
2. Apply online for the IRCTC/West Zone Apprentice engagement between 30.09.2026 and 18.10.2026.
3. Keep scanned, self-attested copies of all required documents (listed above) ready before applying.
4. Applicants have to produce details of their registration made on the apprenticeshipindia.gov.in portal, as part of the application process.

Applicants should ensure their name, father's name and date of birth exactly match those recorded in their Matriculation or equivalent certificate. Any deviation found during Document Verification will lead to cancellation of candidature and also debarment. In case of selection, applicants are required to report for Document/Certificate Verification with their originals.

• The decision of IRCTC in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications, mode of selection, etc., shall be final.
• No correspondence for engagement will be entertained.
• Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidature, and no correspondence will be entertained in the matter.
• Candidature of applicants shall be cancelled if they fail to produce the required original testimonials for verification, or if any other discrepancy is noticed.
• No daily allowance/conveyance allowance or travelling allowance will be paid to applicants called for document verification.
• After selection for engagement, requests to change the trade will not be entertained. Applicants will be trained only for the trade in which they have been selected.
• Applicants selected for training will not be allowed to withdraw from training, except for reasons beyond their control.

Important Advisory

Applicants will be selected purely as per merit. IRCTC has not appointed any agents to act on its behalf. Applicants are warned not to fall for lures based on any such claims being made by persons or agencies.

Impersonation/Suppression of Facts – Warning

• Any applicant found using unfair means of any kind in the document verification, or sending someone else in their place to appear for document verification and attempting to impersonate, will be disqualified.
• Applicants found submitting forged/fake certificates or documents of any kind, for securing eligibility and/or obtaining privileges, will have their candidature rejected.
• Applicants shall not bring in, or attempt to bring in, any political or other influence to further their interest regarding the engagement. Candidature of such applicants is liable to be rejected.
